Relevance of the project
One of the main problems for livestock production in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as in many other developing countries, is the lack of a high-quality year-round feed base. The increase in population and rapid growth of the world economy lead to a rising demand for animal products. At the same time, the demand for feed crops for livestock farming also increases. Therefore, in the future, maintaining food security will depend on the expansion and efficient use of non-traditional resources, as well as on innovative technologies for the production of animal feeds and feed additives.
This project is consistent with the Concept for the Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2021-2030.
Based on the above, we consider the topic of this research relevant, and its results to have practical significance in the fields of feed production, animal husbandry, and food safety.
Novelty of the topic
The novelty and originality lie in the use of alcohol and slaughterhouse by-products as components of extruded compound feeds. Another innovative aspect is that we have proposed, for the first time, a technology for producing enriched extruded feed in granulated form, for which a Patent of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been obtained, and which is being commercialized within the framework of this project.
Project goal
To organize the production of cost-effective extruded compound feeds for farm animals, poultry, and fish using alcohol and slaughterhouse by-products.
Expected and achieved results
As a result of the full-scale launch of production, R&D Program No. 23RK0007 will be utilized, namely the method for manufacturing and application of highly nutritious and safe extruded and granulated products (feeds and feed additives) under the Patent of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Invention No. 35952. The main raw materials will include distillery stillage (a by-product of alcohol production) and slaughterhouse waste.
The main expected outcome is the introduction of a new highly nutritious and safe extruded compound feed for all types of farm animals, poultry, and fish to the Kazakhstani market, and later to international markets. Previous results confirm the feasibility of using distillery by-products as a primary protein component.
The available technical equipment allows obtaining from a mixture of distillery stillage, grain crops, or grain waste a complete, highly digestible feed that increases animal productivity.
In addition to achieving the main objective, processing distillery stillage will help address the issue of waste disposal from alcohol production, thereby reducing environmental impact around distilleries. Similarly, the problem of efficient utilization of slaughterhouse waste from meat plants and slaughter points will also be solved.
At present, a compound feed plant has been constructed, and the procurement and installation of equipment and machinery have been completed.
Based on the research and development project that underpins this commercialization initiative, formulas and technologies for producing extruded feeds from distillery by-products have been developed, as well as biologically safe feed additives that improve animal productivity. The technology for producing extruded and granulated feed has been refined, and a Patent of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 35952 “Method for producing extruded granulated product” has been obtained. The trademark “Petvero” No. 109283 dated 24.12.2025 has been registered.
The use of extruded compound feeds will increase animal productivity and reduce the cost of the final product.
