Phytogenic feed additives (PFAs), also known as phytobiotics, are complexes of biologically active plant-derived compounds used in livestock nutrition as alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters. Their application has been associated with improved digestion, modulation of the intestinal microbiota, and a reduction in pathological processes, making these additives increasingly important in sustainable animal production systems [1, 2].

One of the major challenges affecting the safety of feeds and feed additives is contamination with mycotoxins, which are secondary metabolites produced by molds of the genera Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Penicillium. These compounds exert toxic effects on animals, with aflatoxins, deoxynivalenol, T-2 toxin, and zearalenone being among the most prevalent contaminants responsible for reduced productivity and impaired animal health [3].

The aim of this study was to perform a comprehensive safety assessment of a phytogenic feed additive produced by LLP "NFT-KATU", including the determination of mycotoxin content and the evaluation of toxicity using bioassay methods.

The study was conducted within the framework of research project AP23484620, "Development and implementation of phytogenic and phytobiotic products for the prevention and treatment of mastitis in animals with assessment of milk quality and safety."

The authors express their sincere gratitude to HEMA LLC for providing test kits for mycotoxin determination.
