Hematological and biochemical blood testing in animals

Hematological and biochemical blood tests in animals are performed for a comprehensive assessment of the general condition of the body, early detection of pathological processes, diagnosis of diseases, monitoring of treatment effectiveness, and preventive health monitoring. These tests make it possible to assess the influence of feeding, new feed formulations and feed additives, phytobiotic and phytogenic preparations, as well as medicinal products on metabolism, liver, kidney and other internal organ function. This is especially important in scientific trials, production control and veterinary support of animals.

A biochemical blood test helps assess the functional state of internal organs, including the liver, kidneys, pancreas and biliary system, and identify disorders of protein, carbohydrate, lipid and mineral metabolism. In farm animals, these tests can be used to monitor metabolic processes, productivity and the general physiological status.

Equipment

  • Biochemical analysis is performed using the BioChem FC-200 automatic biochemical analyzer.
  • Hematological analysis is performed using the MicroCC 20 Vet veterinary analyzer, which determines 20 blood parameters and produces 3 histograms: WBC, RBC and PLT.

When blood testing is recommended

  • for preventive health monitoring;
  • in cases of reduced productivity, weight loss, depression or impaired appetite;
  • when inflammatory processes, anemia, liver or kidney diseases, or metabolic disorders are suspected;
  • in digestive disorders, dehydration or signs of intoxication;
  • to monitor treatment effectiveness and recovery after disease;
  • before and during the use of medicinal products;
  • when changing the diet or introducing new feeds, feed additives, phytobiotics and phytogenics;
  • to assess the condition of young, productive, pregnant and lactating animals;
  • in scientific research, production trials and veterinary support of farms.

Sample requirements and animal preparation

  • For hematological analysis, whole blood with EDTA anticoagulant is required. The minimum volume is 25 µL.
  • For biochemical analysis, blood serum is required. The minimum sample volume is 3-45 µL. To perform a panel of biochemical parameters, it is recommended to provide at least 500 µL of blood serum.
  • Blood should preferably be collected before feeding or as recommended by a veterinary specialist.
  • The sample should be delivered to the laboratory as soon as possible, avoiding overheating, freezing of whole blood and marked hemolysis.
  • The tube should be labeled with the animal species, identification number or name, sampling date, and contact details of the owner or farm.

Result format

Results are issued as a laboratory report indicating the parameters determined, units of measurement and approximate reference values. Interpretation of results is provided upon request, taking into account the animal species, age, physiological status, feeding conditions, clinical signs and veterinary examination findings.

Animal species

Tests are performed for dogs, cats, cattle, sheep, goats and laboratory animals. For other animal species, the possibility of testing should be confirmed in advance.

Information required for a test request

  • full name of the owner or farm name;
  • contact phone number / WhatsApp;
  • animal species and identification data;
  • type of test: biochemical, hematological or both;
  • date and time of blood sampling;
  • brief purpose of the test: preventive monitoring, diagnosis, treatment control, scientific experiment or feed additive trial.
